Rimrock Banff opened on October 7 as the first North American address for Emblems Collection, Accor’s young luxury collection, and only its second opening worldwide, after Lucknam Park Hotel and Spa in England. The opening follows an extensive property-wide transformation of the established mountainside resort in Banff National Park, one that retained the hotel’s original architectural structure while reshaping its interiors and guest experience around the surrounding landscape.
Accor launched Emblems Collection in 2021 as a collection of established hotels with strong individual identities, rather than a standardized brand template. That positioning is the point of the Rimrock signing: a Banff fixture with its own long relationship to the Canadian Rockies, reimagined rather than replaced, and now carrying the collection’s service rituals, including its Master of the House concept, translated here into a Master Pathfinder role built around local knowledge of the park.
The setting does much of the work. The resort sits high above the town of Banff at 300 Mountain Avenue, on the slopes of Sulphur Mountain, its terraced form overlooking the Bow Valley inside a UNESCO World Heritage site. Rooms, public spaces, wellness facilities and dining venues have all been reoriented toward the mountain views, with interiors in warm woods, natural stone and textured fabrics, and beds and seating positioned to keep the peaks in frame.

Rooms that face the mountains
The resort offers 320 guestrooms, including 57 suites. At the top of the range, the Infinity Two-Bedroom Suite opens onto a wraparound terrace of more than 1,260 square feet, with a barrel sauna, a fire table and panoramic views across the national park. The nine Wellness Studio suites add movement and recovery amenities, wellness minibars and sleep-focused features, along with access to the resort’s gear-lending program, a practical touch in a park where the weather can rewrite the day’s plan by noon.
The bathhouse is the defining bet
The centrepiece of the transformation is a 9,600-square-foot Bathhouse, described by the resort as Banff’s first luxury hydrothermal wellness experience. It combines indoor and outdoor thermal environments with vitality and hot pools, a mountain-facing infinity pool, a salt sauna, an aromatic steam room and glacial cold plunges, plus a suspended meditation room and an Aurora sensory room. Beside it, a 3,800-square-foot Active Centre adds Technogym and Peloton equipment, climbing and bouldering walls, guided movement classes and recovery-focused programming.

Fifty ways into the park, and honey at the table
The Expeditions Centre offers more than 50 seasonal activities across adventure, culture, wellness and nature, coordinated by the resort’s Pathfinders: privately guided hikes, forest bathing, alpine yoga, canyon ice walks, Indigenous cultural encounters and excursions to the Athabasca Glacier. Dining runs across four venues. Parker’s Table is the signature restaurant; Rimrock Social is the central gathering space; The Listening Room pairs rare spirits and wine with vinyl; and Rimrock Market covers coffee, provisions and an après-style setting.
Each Emblems Collection property adopts a single locally inspired ingredient as a thread through the stay. At Rimrock Banff it is Alpine Honey, sourced through a partnership with Alberta producer Highland Farm Honey, appearing in the arrival ritual, wellness tonics and culinary offerings. The collection’s Travel Cake, developed with Korean pastry chef Yun Eunyoung of Seoul-based Garuharu, is interpreted here as pine needle cake layered with alpine honey ganache.
“Rimrock Banff is a wonderful expression of the Emblems philosophy: an established property with a character of its own, deeply connected to its destination,” said Maud Bailly, chief executive officer of Emblems Collection.
Groups are part of the brief as well. The resort’s meetings material lists two ballrooms, Solstice and Alpenglow, and four dedicated meeting rooms, and the signature restaurant carries two private dining rooms for up to 10 guests each. For arrivals, Calgary International Airport is the primary gateway, approximately 90 minutes away by road according to opening coverage, with the town of Banff a few minutes below the resort and the Banff Gondola a short walk up the road. The opening also lands weeks before the local ski season, which typically begins in November at Mount Norquay, Sunshine Village and Lake Louise.
The property carries a long history on its mountainside: the site has welcomed guests drawn to the area’s springs since the 1880s, and the current building opened in 1993, according to opening coverage. What has changed is the proposition. Banff has never lacked scenery or demand; what it has lacked, inside the park boundary, is a second luxury flag with a serious wellness offer and a guided program of this scale. Rimrock Banff now supplies both, and gives Emblems Collection its North American test case in the process.
